The protection of foodstuffs is the top priority, as its premature perishing makes a considerable impact on the environment. In the evaluation of packaging, not only should the material be considered, but also the entire ecobalance. The current environmental movement and new EU laws are bringing about a great deal of change in the field of ecological packaging. New products appear almost every day, which we test and evaluate. Lightweight packaging / intelligent design
Material savings are possible with the use of lighter packaging or intelligent design. Many types of packaging can be manufactured with fewer raw materials without restricting product protection.

Recyclable materials
Plastic packaging made of monomaterials makes better recycling possible. Many products can be packaged with just one plastic or a plastic group instead of composite materials that are difficult to recycle. Cardboard and paper packaging is also suitable for recycling.

Recycled materials
Use of recycled plastic (e.g. R-PET) or recycled cardboard or paper. Some types of packaging can be manufactured from up to 100% recycled materials.

Cardboard or paper packaging with oxygen barrier
These packaging types usually consist of cardboard or paper with a plastic layer. The plastic content is reduced by 70–85 % compared to conventional packaging. The plastic layer is easy to peel off, allowing the cardboard and plastic to be disposed of separately. The packaging normally contains a high barrier made of EVOH, as a result of which the shelf life of the products is about as long as with conventional plastic packaging. The cardboard can be printed on individually according to your wishes. There are also some types of cardboard packaging to which a varnish is applied that does not negatively affect recycling. The packaging can be disposed of entirely as used paper without separation.

Compostable materials
These include materials such as cardboard, paper, corrugated cardboard, cellulose, pulp or other materials made of plant fibers such as bagasse (mostly made of sugar cane), palm leaf, wood, grass, bamboo, hemp or algae. In addition, there are numerous bioplastics such as cellophane, PLA, PBS, PHA (e.g. PHB) or PBAT. Many compostable materials do not have a good oxygen barrier, but there are also solutions that have a good barrier and are thus suitable for MAP or vacuum packaging. A distinction is made between industrially compostable and home-compostable materials. Industrially compostable materials can only be composted in composting plants.

Organically based, but non-compostable materials
These materials are made entirely or partly from renewable raw materials, but cannot be composted. These include non-biodegradable bioplastics such as Bio-PET, Bio-PE, Bio-PP or Bio-PA.
