Shelf life of vacuum-packed food

Whether raw, cut, cooked, ready-made, or completely unprocessed, food has a significantly longer shelf life when vacuum-packed. Vacuum packing removes air from the bag or tray containing the food. This also removes most of the germs and oxygen that cause food to spoil more quickly. 

How long a particular food lasts in a vacuum depends on various factors such as hygiene during packaging, the freshness of the food, storage (heat and light), and the quality of the bag. In the vacuum shelf life table shown here, you will find our guidelines for shelf life and recommendations for storing various foods. 

Cheese, sausage products, and the like can be stored even longer in shrink bags, as the bag fits even more snugly around the product.
